Brief Explanation

What Main Steps Are Involved In Cabinet Painting Projects?

Just about everyone's familiar with the option of having a custom cabinet-only painting job. Yet, various stages need to occur in order for such projects to be done correctly.

One of the most important steps, especially for kitchen cabinets painting projects, is #1: Number Tagging.

This involves numbering each and every cabinet door via a simple strip scotch tape with a number written on it.

Corresponding numbers are then placed inside the respective cabinet boxes so that the same door will be placed back precisely where it came from at the very end of the job.

If needed or applicable, this same numbering method applies for drawers as well.

After this stage is complete, we then proceed to #2: Unhinging.

This involves removing and stack all doors and drawer faces neatly in preparation to transport to an ideal painting area, which, in this case, was our very own warehouse area for priming and painting.

All hinges and screws of the cabinets are left inside their boxes and stay there throughout the entire process until it is time to reinstall the doors.

Client Testimonial
I do not usually leave reviews, but I recently had my house painted by Nearby Painters and they were fantastic. The estimator and crew were very polite and accommodating. I had them paint my kitchen cabinets and a few rooms in my home and everything… ~ Dustin H. - Peachtree City, Ga

1. What Other Stages Happen Next?

Then begins the process of #3: Masking.

Contrary to popular belief, this is a very extensive and special process that involves applying painter's masking tape along with special paint-protective plastic wrapping.

Interestingly enough, if the wrong side of this plastic wrapping is facing up, it will disintegrate once paint interacts with it.

Therefore, to help avoid this from happing, the plastic wrapping that we use has blatant, bold writing on it so that if the writing is correct and easily readable, then the correct protective side will always be facing up.

Back at the warehouse comes the real meat and potatoes for our trade which is #4: Prepping.

This involved sanding down each cabinet to the bare wood, but nothing too excessive or harsh.

Finally, we added one coat of priming and painting, followed then by a second coat of priming and painting again to each cabinet and drawer face.

After this is complete, each cabinet will then be sanded down once more slightly to help smooth out any excessive heavy painting so that the final product will be both polished and professional looking.

2. How Did We Go Above For This Customer?

At one point during this project, we noticed that a good chunk of one of this customer's lower floor cabinets had been severely damaged.

Turns out that it was actually right next to where this customer's dog bowl and water were kept.

As a result, after the occasional chow or sip from these bowls now and again, this customer's K-9 companion gnawed heavily on the wood.

Not many other painters would take the time to focus on such a minor step or repair such as this, especially since it practically had nothing to do with the task at hand which was painting.

However, we firmly believe in going above and beyond for our customers whenever the opportunity presents itself, such as in situations similar to this.
